    After installation, Windows Vista will prompt you with the ‘Welcome Center’ that is designed to aid beginners to configure their new computer. If you’ve learned your way around Vista, and want to get rid of this Welcome center, here’s how you do it:

    1. Start Regedit.
    2. Find your way to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion, Run.
    3. Right click on the WindowsWelcomeCenter key and select Delete.

    The next time you start your computer, the annoying Welcome Center will no longer be there.

    Note: A healthy registry is crucial for the proper functioning of your computer. This is the reason why you should be careful while making any direct changes to the registry.

    If you are using a desktop computer, chances are that you don’t want the computer to go to sleep automatically. Here’s how to disable it:

    1. Click Start -> Control Panel
    2. Click on “Power Options”
    3. Then under Preferred plans, select “High performance”

    This will disable the automatic sleep function on your system, but will turn off your monitor, you can further customize your options by clicking on “Change plan settings”
